Hey There!, I’m Kanika, aka, The Indian Somm. While I spend my days as a Biomedical engineer, my evenings see me immersed in the enchanting world of wine, almost akin to a vinous explorer. My mission? To unravel the complexities of wine, transforming it from a enigmatic realm into a delightful journey accessible to all.
Growing up in the 90s, in a modest Indian household, wine was about as common as a unicorn sighting. I totally get it; wine can seem a bit fancy and intimidating, like a secret club with a strict dress code. But here’s the thing – it doesn’t have to be that way. In fact, it shouldn’t be that way.
Always been a bit obsessed with food and travel -to put it rather mildly, I’ve roamed across the diverse landscapes of India, soaking up the flavors and stories of every region. My culinary curiosity also led me to explore kitchens and cuisines worldwide. From street food in Mumbai to Michelin-starred meals in Italy, I’ve savored it all. And guess what? Wine goes beautifully with all of them. So, why not make it accessible to everyone?
With over three years of experience and a shiny certification as a wine professional, I’ve had the privilege of exploring more than ten wine regions across the world. I’ve meandered through vineyards, engaged in leisurely chats with the passionate winemakers, and, quite literally, savored every moment, my taste buds dancing with delight along the way.

I’m currently in the final stretch of the challenging dipWSET (Diploma, Wine & Spirit Education Trust, London) program. It’s like the PhD of the wine world, and I’m diving into it headfirst. Why? Because I’m on a mission to learn everything there is to know about wine and share that knowledge with you.
My goal is simple- ‘I want to bring the world of wine to your table, and I want everyone to feel welcome’.
